Playing their first two regional games in New York after winning the MPS Thanksgiving Tournament, on Saturday, March 24th the U16 boys really stepped up in game one of the NE Region 1 league. The boys brought their A game while playing against nationally ranked Massapequa Arsenal (NY-E), maintaining near-constant possession and demonstrating superb technique. Their skill came to the forefront, earning them a two goal lead, which they protected to the game’s end. They triumphantly came out on top, with a score of 2-0.

The first game’s victory came at quite a cost to our team. Multiple players incurred injuries and fatigue. Their second regional game that same day was lost to an excellent team, Manhattan Paris Saint-Germain B95 (NY-E), 5-0. The next two games, played March 31st at Citizens Bank Field, were played with the same Barcelona-style possession prowess and technical skills for which the boys have come to be known. Utilizing their quick pass-and-move style, the boys dominated both games. The young men of Abbey Villa S.C. won the first game 2-1. They tied the second game 2-2 (where they were up 2-0, with 5 minutes of added time to play).

On Sunday, April 1st, the boys played their first Spring 2012 MAPLE Div. 1 game. Although tired and battered from their exploits on Saturday, they dominated their game from start to finish, beating the current State Cup Champions, North Shore, 2-0.

On Saturday, April 7th, the boys took to the field again. Playing East Islip Isa Elite from New York, they dominated by maintaining possession of the ball from the start to finish, except for ten minutes at the end of the first half. With one legit goal disallowed, the final score was tied 0-0. In the second game the Abbey Villa S.C. boys did it again. Playing flowing possession soccer, the boys exemplified great ball control and teamwork, created multiple chances to score, and were ultimately victorious versus Stony Brook Rush Knights (New York), 3-0.

On Saturday, April 14th, the team had only one game to play against the MPS Knights. Although they did not play their best, the Abbey Villa S.C. boys took control of the game after a ten minute “settling in” period. Even though the boys gave up goals from a corner and a penalty, they still came out on top, winning the game 4-3.

These young men have come a long way since they entered MAPLE Division 3 four years ago. Their hard work and the club’s focus on player development is now coming to the forefront as they stand tall in Maple Division 1.

Well done again, Boys!
